Most families can’t wait to document those first couple of weeks with a newborn—tiny feet, sleepy yawns, curled-up poses. But as a mom of two and a longtime photographer, I’ve noticed there’s an entire world of development and wonder waiting beyond that first month. Babies change more during their first year of life than any other time in their entire lifetime! This is why my Baby Plan is an extremely popular option for Boston area parents after they capture their newborn photographs. From budding smiles at four months to the wobbly stands at a year, each stage is worth capturing in its own right. Here’s why.
The Four Months Belly Time Session: Personality Emerges
By 3-4 months, baby’s features are more defined, and they’re starting to show off a glimmer of personality. Maybe your little one is already cooing and making direct eye contact, or you’ve spotted their very first attempts at rolling over.
Photo Tips & Focus
- Tummy Time Triumphs: We’ll highlight those determined expressions as your baby lifts their head.
- Subtle Smiles & Eye Contact: They might be brief, but capturing that early interaction can be priceless.
- Mom & Dad Involvement: I encourage parents to join in for at least a few frames—your gentle support and love make for sweet, genuine moments.
Six Months: The Sitting Stage
By now, a baby’s curiosity has skyrocketed. Around six months, many babies can sit up (even if a bit wobbly) and are fascinated by the world around them. They might grab toys, giggle at silly faces, or light up at the mere sight of Mom or Dad.
Photo Tips & Focus
- Playful Interaction: We can capture baby’s reactions to peekaboo or toys, highlighting blossoming hand-eye coordination.
- Sitting Portraits: Supported or otherwise, sitting poses give a lovely, upright perspective—and you get to see how baby’s facial expressions have become even more animated.
- Vibrant Props: Simple, colorful items can keep baby engaged without overtaking the scene. A plush blanket or soft rug for texture helps them stay comfy if they topple over.
- Outdoor images and family images are popular at this age
Twelve Months: A Tiny Toddler in the Making
A baby’s first year goes by so quickly. At twelve months, you might find them pulling themselves up, maybe taking those first shaky steps, or exploring new ways to express personality (pointing at things, babbling words, or clapping with delight).
Photo Tips & Focus
- Standing & Moving Shots: Even if they can’t walk unaided, capturing that moment of trying to balance is beyond endearing.
- Big Expressions & Curiosity: By now, babies often have a favorite game or a go-to silly face—great for candid frames.
- Fabulous age to capture the relationships that have been built between siblings and parents
- FUN SETS!
